Chateau des Ormeaux
starting at 240 US$ in double room
The Château des Ormeaux is a spectacular, cream-stone castle nestled on the hills above the Loire. Long-abandoned, it was restored by the owners to create a luxurious bed and breakfast, while lavishing detail to achieve the home of their dreams. Off the handsome entry the salon is set with comfortable sofas and chairs round a wood-burning fire.
Continuing on, the dining room is gorgeous in blues and golds, with a lovely cabinet displaying a wealth of silver and a dramatic, deep-red chair, which brings out the reds in the wonderful Oriental carpets. Climb the elegant staircase to the bedchambers, each named for a French composer.
On the second floor are three spectacular rooms. At the front, each enjoying a sitting area in the turret round, are Lully, in pretty colors of red and gold, and Couperin, a dramatic room in black and gold contrasting with the blues and creams of the bathroom. At the back, Rameau is a lovely room richly painted in warm yellow with complementing green and rose.
On the third floor, Ravel is the smallest guestroom, but quite intimate under the eaves, and both Debussy, in lovely rose and cream, and Poulenc, with its display of blue-and-cream checks on plaids, enjoy the turret round. Endless trails, tennis courts, a gorgeous pool, and wonderful table d'hôte dinners make a stay here an absolute delight.
