Alsace is known for its small charming villages, great food, and accessible wines. It is also a cycling paradise because of the great system of small roads and bike paths, and the fact that the villages are so close together... not to mention the warm welcome that awaits you at the end of your days' efforts!

Day 1

Arrival in Colmar

Upon your arrival, our trip manager will meet you at the train station and provide you with your maps and routes. Bike check and adjustment. Night in Colmar or Horbourg-Wihr.

Day 2

Colmar, Horbourg-Wihr – Turckheim approx 50 Km

Today your ride follows the "Route des Vins" or wine route, mostly on bike paths. Winemaking in Alsace has a long history. The wine producing region of Alsace in France primarily produces white wines, though there are also some very drinkable (and inexpensive!) Pinot Noir reds. Both dry and sweet white wines are produced, and are often made from aromatic grapes varieties. You will find some of the most noted dry Rieslings in the world, but Alsace is perhaps even more noted for highly aromatic Gewürztraminer wines.Worth stopping for a tasting! Cycle through picturesque villages before reaching the village of Turckheim ringed with its medieval ramparts. Night and dinner in Turckheim.

Day 3

Turckheim – Selestat  approx 40 Km

Today you will explore and discover some of the prettiest villages of Alsace. Be sure to stop in tiny Riquewihr. The village appears unchanged over the centuries, and gives a great feeling for how a village in the region would have looked 400 years ago. Many of the houses date from the 16th and 17th centuries, and still have gorgeous courtyards and fountains from that time. The town has also retained much of its medieval fortification and a castle - unusually for the region, it largely escaped damage during the second world war  - and also has a couple of very good museums. oh, and also Ribeauvillé... and there is also a great tasting!! Night and dinner in Selestat.

Day 4

Selestat – Colmar, Horbourg-Wihr approx 45 Km

Be sure to explore medieval Selestat before departing this morning. It is one of the richest architecturally amongst the small villages of Alsace. You have a great day of cycling through the vineyards today. Take the time to take some detours, en route back to Colmar. It is the center of the city that reveals Colmar's charm: the colors and atmosphere of streets still embody much of the Middle Ages. Churches, cloisters, half-timbered houses, facades with ornate wood sculptures, paintings, and edifices from the Renaissance also add to this very special city center. Night and dinner in Colmar or Horbourg.
