Half Day Volendam and Marken Tour
Take this interesting excursion to Volendam and Marken, the old picturesque fishing villages, where traditional costumes are still worn and indulge yourself at the cheese factory.
Only a few kilometres from Amsterdam you can imagine yourself to be in an entirely different world amongst the green flat Dutch countryside. Our first visit is to Volendam, the fisherman's village situated on the shores of the former Zuiderzee. We then continue by boat to Marken, once an island, now connected to the mainland by a dike. Some people here also still wear a colourful traditional costume (lace caps, wooden shoes and striped aprons, which is often presented as Holland's national costume) that has not changed since the 16th century. Also included in this tour is a visit to a cheese farm, where cheese is still manufactured at home. On your return journey to Amsterdam, you will drive through typical Dutch scenery via Monnickendam, one of the dormant cities of the Zuiderzee.
